You'll need a rating in order to qualify an Energy Efficient Mortgage or an Energy Improvement Mortgage.

For the average size home of average complexity, an official HERS rating costs $400. If the home fails, you'll receive a written report on its deficiencies and possible remedies, as well as a reduced fee for re-testing. There are also fee discounts available based on volume.
