More Info
- A Rating denotes a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) rating, a standardized methodology for rating the energy efficiency of a home by a certified rater and typically used for builder tax credits, energy efficient mortgages, energy efficiency improvement loans, and ENERGY STAR certification.
- An Assessment denotes a standardized whole house energy assessment based on current building science, according to Building Performance Institute (BPI) protocols and standards. The assessment evaluates, in order of importance, the safety, durability, and comfort and energy efficiency of homes (usually of existing homes).
- An Audit can be anything anyone wants it to be. There is no such thing as a standardized audit, or credentials for doing audits. Many auditors have no specialized training or certifications. In other words, anyone can sell home energy audits and there’s no telling what the audit will consist of or how helpful it will be.
